Baptism on All Saint's

Baptism on All Saint's

Sunday, November 6, 2022

We are pleased to be celebrating the baptism of two children with their family on November 6, 2022.

The Madill family has a history at St. Augustine's and has reconnected recently.

Baptism is our entry into a conscious life with Christ, either for ourselves or as a whole family.  If you would like to know more, or would like to be baptised on the 6th, please speak with Rev. Jonathan.

All Hallows Eve Warm-Up

Thank you to everyone for your support of candy donations and time.

We had a great turnout and estimate between 150 - 200 people coming by.

Soup and Bun Dinner for the COVID Public Memorial and Meal

Update

 All Souls COVID Memorial

On the first snowy day of the year, a few of us gathered to pray and remember those lost during the pandemic.  Paul Fuellbrandt carried us with music. We followed a vigil format for our prayers with scripture readings and a few selections from John O'Donoghue's work "To Bless the Space Between Us." We consciously held space for those who were not able to attend for the snow, for distance, or schedule.  We wondered if an All-Souls Memorial vigil might become a yearly passage.  We need spaces to bring our grief and be held in community. We finished of the evening with some amazing beef and noodle soup from the Ernst household and buns.

Thanks to Lauretta H., Eileen P., Eileen F., and John H. For helping get things already to go.

Sunday Coffee Roster

Sunday Coffee Roster

Volunteers Needed

A coffee roster is needed for this years Sunday church gathering.
A team of two is required - either form your own team or we will just put two names together - this is a great way to get to know us all.
We serve coffee/tea/juice and a snack each Sunday after church. (The snack is provided by the weekly volunteers.)

Memorial Garden

Memorial Garden

Update

Thank you to Bob Peel for arranging to have this beautiful sign made to commemorate our Memorial Garden.

From earliest times, Christians have utilized their churchyards for burial. The cyclic nature of the seasons and gardens symbolize life, death and resurrection so essential to our faith. In the Garden of Eden, in the gardens where Jesus went to pray, and in the garden where Mary Magdalene encountered her Risen Lord, all have found God’s presence in these places of beauty.

Today, the concept of churchyard burial is no longer practical. Land is limited and resources are demanded for other areas of ministry. Yet there is a spiritual need for a permanent tie to a church one cares about. Our Memorial Garden will be a place of beauty and tranquility for interment of the cremated remains of the St. Augustine’s family. It will offer the contemporary equivalent of Churchyard burial and serve as a means to proclaim our faith. It will also provide a reasonably priced alternative to burial. Although everyone may not wish to place their ashes in the garden,
we all can enjoy it as a place for rest, remembrance, meditation and prayer. Our Garden at St. Augustine’s is being built with the help of parishioners, some members of the Sunshine Garden and a professional landscape contractor (for the low stone wall that borders and defines the garden).

A significant portion of the development expenses have been supplied by the Barnet Fund, and our Visioning Committee has endorsed this as a particularly appropriate use of this fund. The balance required is approximately $5,000.00, to be raised by donations.

If you wish to donate: Access the St. Augustine’s web page. Click “Give Online” in the upper right. Then click “Give Online” in bright green. Memorial Garden Fund should appear as the designation. If not, select it. Be sure to leave the “Recurring Gift” box unchecked for a one-time garden donation. Or use the traditional method of cheque and written designation.

We are grateful for all of your support, whether financial or simply your
appreciation and encouragement.

Welcome Zoll AED to st. A's!

Welcome Zoll AED to st. A's!

Medical events come unexpectedly

Having an AED available within a minute can increase recovery from a heart event by a huge amount.

We are happy to welcome to St. A's this new AED in the narthex by the elevator.  If it is needed, the only instruction for use is: PUSH THE ON BUTTON AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.

There is a small screen that will show you what to do and how to do it.  This version of the AED actually measures heart function and adjusts the needed program as required.  The process always begins with CPR to get the heart moving until the heart is ready to be shocked.

A 5 minute instruction video is here: https://youtu.be/Mrhb52fR3p8

Watching it could help save the life of a fellow parishioner.

GATHERING AROUND THE KITCHEN TABLE

Come and enjoy a relaxing time of conversation as we reflect together on excerpts from Alice Fryling’s wise and readable book "Aging Faithfully". We will also consider passages from other sources which, I trust, will add to the richness our conversation.
