What is Maundy Thursday?
Holy Thursday is also known as 'Maundy Thursday.' The word maundy comes from the Latin word mandatum (commandment) which is the first word of the Gospel acclamation: Mandatum novum do vobis dicit Dominus, ut diligatis invicem, sicut dilexi vos. "I give you a new commandment: Love one another as I have loved you." (John 13.34) Maundy Thursday is observed by Christians worldwide. It is a day that commemorates the washing of the feet and Jesus Christ's Last Supper with his disciples; it reminds us of the importance of humility, selflessness and service to others. The day holds a crucial place in Holy Week, which starts with Palm Sunday and culminates with Easter Sunday. |

Stations of the CrossGood Friday 3rd April 2026 @ 3pm An annual tradition. We join together for a simple, yet poignant 'walk' through the Stations of the Cross in St A's sanctuary. This devotion first arose in Jerusalem out of veneration for those sacred places sanctified by the sufferings of Jesus Christ. According to tradition, there are fourteen Stations of the Cross, beginning with Jesus condemned to death and ending with his body placed in the sepulcher. The traditional English sonnet also has fourteen lines, or stations. Combining the fourteen Stations of the cross with a sonnet structure, allowing one line in the sonnet for each Station, we can describe the entire ritual in a complete poem. In St A's Stations of the Cross experience a sonnet has been written for each one of the Stations. The first lines from each one of the fourteen sepaate sonnets are then assembled to make a final work |
