Supporting the Buye Diocese

Supporting the Buye Diocese

Since 2018, people in our diocese have raised funds through an autumn coffee hour appeal, inviting individuals to give $5 to make a difference in the lives of many of our brothers and sisters living in Burundi.

Last year, parishes of the Edmonton diocese raised $8,077 for the Buye diocese to purchase medical cards. Each card costs $5, enabling people to save 80 per cent of the cost of medical care for a full year. Sadly, this coverage is out of reach for most people living in the Diocese of Buyé.

"Throughout September, we encourage each parish to hold a collection dedicated to purchasing medical cards. All funds collected go directly to this worthwhile cause, and there are no administrative fees," said the Rev. Rebecca Harris and the  Rev. Danielle Key, who started the initiative six years ago.

Please send all donations directly to John Gee, diocesan treasurer, at the Synod Office. Individuals can also donate online through the diocesan website - select "Buye Medical Cards" from the dropdown menu.

Blessing of the Animals

Blessing of the Animals

Saturday 4th September - 3.30pm at St Augustine's

Blessing of the Animals will take place: *Saturday September 4th @ 3.30 pm on St. Augustine’s Anglican Church lawn.

Join us to mark the feast day of St. Francis to honor his care of creation and his understanding of God's work through all living things.

We share in a simple service reflecting on God's gift of life in the animals most close to us with a simple act of blessing and thanksgiving for their life.

Please bring any furry, scaley, or feathered friend that you give thanks for in your life to pray with and for them!  Please ensure your animal companion is on a leash or in a cage/crate/container/etc.  Alternatively, please feel free to bring a photo!  If you are remembering a beloved animal who has passed, you may also wish to bring a photo, as we will have a moment of silence to remember them too.

GATHERING AROUND THE KITCHEN TABLE

GATHERING AROUND THE KITCHEN TABLE

A Zoom Event - Thursday afternoons 1.30pm - 2.45pm

Good news!   “Gathering” has resumed!!  You are invited to gather together  and enjoy these informal afternoons with friends as we explore and reflect on various aspects of our life of faith--and how this informs the choices we make as we encounter the important issues of today’s world.  This fall we will using Bishop Mariann Budde’s book “How We Learn to Be Brave: Decisive Moments in Life and Faith” to focus our time together.  I think Bishop Budde’s will lead us into some very interesting conversations.  We will also  include other topics of interest from time to time.

Handouts will be send out early each  week to help bring a focus to our conversation.

So bring your coffee or tea or “whatever” and gather around our virtual kitchen table.

If you have any questions or want more information, e-mail me at wildrosie7@gmail.com. Please feel free to invite a friend to join us via Zoom.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all each week.
