Doreen Wilson
We are sad to share that Doreen Wilson of the parish died last week. She was in her mid nineties and from a recent conversation in hospital had suggested she had lived a full life and was ready to go. More details of her life here: https://www.remembering.ca/obituary/doreen-wilson-1093063843 While there are no plans for a memorial service, the family asked that we share a simple prayer for her during church. We will do that this Sunday. Peace to you Doreen and for all who remember you. For more infomation visit:

GATHERING AROUND THE KITCHEN TABLEA Zoom Event - Thursday afternoons 1.30pm - 2.45pm Good news! “Gathering” is resuming Thursday, September 18th! You are invited to gather together and enjoy these informal afternoons with friends as we explore and reflect on various aspects of our life of faith--and how this informs the choices we make as we encounter the important issues of today’s world. This fall we will using Bishop Mariann Budde’s book “How We Learn to Be Brave: Decisive Moments in Life and Faith” to focus our time together. I think Bishop Budde’s will lead us into some very interesting conversations. We will also include other topics of interest from time to time. Handouts will be send out early each week to help bring a focus to our conversation. So bring your coffee or tea or “whatever” and gather around our virtual kitchen table. If you have any questions or want more information, e-mail me at wildrosie7@gmail.com. Please feel free to invite a friend to join us via Zoom. I'm looking forward to seeing you all each week. Anne+

Is Someone Watching Me?
Dr. David Lyon, a distinguished thinker in the field of Surveillance Studies, will be giving a public presentation at King's at 3 PM on September 17 in N119 entitled ‘Is Somone Watching Me? Surveillance and the Eye of God, in the Medieval Era and Today’. All are invited! We are lucky to have David join us while he is in town for the Hurtig Lecture on the Future of Canada at the U of A. David will reflect on the ways that communities have thought about surveillance and ‘being watched’ (by God or by others), during the Medieval Era and today, and what that might tell us about our relationship to surveillance in our increasingly monitored society. David has produced a steady stream of books and articles, starting with The Electronic Eye. His latest are Surveillance: A Very Short Introduction, Pandemic Surveillance and The Culture of Surveillance. He has led several large collaborative research projects on surveillance, with research funding totaling almost $8 million. His work has been recognized in Canada, Switzerland, the US and the UK with a number of fellowships, prizes, awards and an honorary doctorate. All are welcome, so please feel free to invite members of the public. |
