St. Augustine's NewsletterThird Sunday of Advent 2021, Sunday, December 12 |
Scripture ReadingsSunday, December 12, 2021 Zephaniah 3:14-20 ~ Isaiah 12:2-6 ~ Philippians 4:4-7 ~ Luke 3:7-18 God of hope, you call us home from the exile of selfish oppression to the freedom of justice, the balm of healing, and the joy of sharing. Make us strong to join you in your holy work, as friends of strangers and victims, companions of those whom others shun, and as the happiness of those whose hearts are broken. We make our prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord. |
Communion Change
Hi All, We are making a switch to individual administration of communion wafers this Sunday. While offering communion in small cups was necessary for a time, many found that to be an impersonal and disorenting practice. Beginning this Sunday we will 'return' to a well-sanitized priest standing at center to offer the wafers individually while avoiding hand contact. Communion is a close space between you and your Creator in community and it seems the right time to show this a bit more again in our practice. Have a blessed Advent. Rev. Morning Prayer during Advent
As we considered during worship on Advent I, daily prayer can help us remain alert to God's activity around us. Advent is a great time to explore prayer. You might do this on your own, reading a book, following a prayer cycle, and so on. However, many people benefit from a community to help them keep to prayer and be encouraged. However, many people benefit from a community to help them keep to prayer and be encouraged. Join in on Anglican Morning Prayer Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 8:45am at the church or join in via Zoom. We will make use of the daily prayer out of the UK's Common Worship materials. contact rector@staugustinesedmonton.com if you need the zoom link |

Khair For All
Our approach reframes food as not just an issue of scarcity and a basic need for survival. We use food as an anchor to engage the cultural wealth and aspirations of racialized communities and as an opportunity for socio-economic inclusion and wellbeing. We understand and honor the role food plays in our wellbeing, sense of self and dignity, connection to culture and to others. Khair for All is an affordable culturally relevant food box social enterprise owned by the Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative. Khair for All operates in partnership with a large network of key intersectoral partners including: Güd box, the Edmonton Food Bank, Action for Healthy Communities, Africa Centre, Canadians Volunteers United in Action (CANAVUA), C5, Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN), Free Play for Kids, Francophonie Albertaine Plurielle (FRAP), Islamic Family Social Services Association, Shaama Centre and UofA Campus Food Bank. Together, as grassroots community agencies we have a shared goal to address socio-economic inequity and social justice within our diverse communities. We have strong relationships and connections to the communities we serve. We are grounded in our holistic understandings of our populations and their realities, challenges, barriers and inherent strengths, assets, and aspirations. Khair for All was co-created by community members connected to the MCHB and continues to be guided by those connected to our network of partner agencies. Essential to the operations of Khair for All is our partner, The Gud Box, an experienced food box provider. The introduction of a private sector operator to support community response to food insecurity is a critical innovation as the synergy created through the various partnerships will improve service provision, reduce gaps in service, increase efficiency and access to fresh, nutritious, culturally relevant food to a greater number of food insecure Edmontonians. Khair for All Boxes Fruit and Vegetable Box. Fruit and vegetable boxes will include up to 20 different fruits and vegetables and will also include one dozen eggs.
