We are pleased to welcome our own Rev. Jean this Sunday (Nov 17, 2024) and the choir from his congregation.  Rev. Jean, originally from Congo, will preach by translator. We will enjoy two musical presentations from his community.

St Augustine's connected with Rev. Jean, his wife Charlotte and their 8 children in 2018 when they came as refugees to Canada and received housing in the Capilano area.  Jean, an Anglican priest, began a Kinyemulengue service at St Augustine's in 2023.  The New International congregation meets every Sunday afternoon.

Solar info event Sunday November 17th, @ 12 noon after church.

We are very pleased to announce that St Augustine's has received a proposal for a solar system from Edmonton's own SPICE - a grassroots, community based solar initiative.  With the help of local investors, SPICE is able to create solar opportunities for organizations who don't have upfront capital.  There is a monthly cost to the church, but it is matched to our existing power bill which, with a solar system, would no longer be significant.

Please stay to learn more this coming Sunday.

Kids Church Christmas Pageant Adult Helper Meeting

Kids Church Christmas Pageant Adult Helper Meeting

Are you able to help with the Christmas Pageant this December? - Sunday, November 24, 2024

Our Kids Christmas pageant will be happening December 22nd during the 10am service.

Please come to a meeting on November 24 during coffee hour if you are able to help with planning and rehearsals. We'll be rehearsing the first 3 Sundays in Decmeber during Kids Church time.

We have a pageant play that was shared by Joanne (thank you!) - it will be a good fit for our kids. I'm hoping we can assign some of the speaking roles at our meeting so the kids have lots of time to practice.

Look forward to seeing you!

Simone

Synod enters Season of Pakitinâsowin

Synod enters Season of Pakitinâsowin

The family of parishes comprising the Diocese of Edmonton took another step forward in its journey of reconciliation and right relationship with the Indigenous peoples of Treaty 6 and Treaty 8, when, on October 19, the 69th Synod voted overwhelmingly to support changing Canon 5 on the Disestablishment of Parishes.

The Edmonton diocese is entering into a Season of Pakitinâsowin by acknowledging that “true richness comes only when you can give away unjust gains that were never really yours at all.” (Source: The Spirit of Pakitinâsowin: Reparations in the Diocese of Edmonton Introduction)

When a parish is disestablished, its property assets are allocated for ministry and mission through the Diocesan Development Fund. With the change to Canon 5, Synod must allocate a minimum of 10 per cent of the property assets of the disestablished parish to the Pakitinâsowin (Sacred Lodge) Fund for Reciprocity and Reparations, or successor Funds established by the Executive Council for reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

Wednesday Night Sharing Circle

Wednesday Night Sharing Circle

On tap: "Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time" by Marcus Borg

Sharing in circle has a long history of transformation and community strength in both indigenous and addictions recovery traditions.

Sharing in circle allows us both opportunity to listen, and when our turn arrives, to speak.

A topic is raised each Wednesday in the realms of Faith, Justice, Spirituality, and Action in the Christian tradition that we are invited to reflect on and share if we wish.

Rev. Jonathan usually facilitates the circle.  Please contact him for the zoom access: rector@staugustinesedmonton.com

We have used books, video, or individual presentations as our 'prompts' for the evening.

"Doors" open at 7:45pm, process begins at 8pm-9pm.  The zoom stays on until 9:30pm latest for those who want to chat more.

GATHER ‘ROUND THE KITCHEN TABLE

GATHER ‘ROUND THE KITCHEN TABLE

Thursday afternoons 1.30pm - 2.45pm, via Zoom,beginning October 3, 2024

I am happy to tell you that “Gathering” is resuming Thursday, October 3rd .

You are invited to gather together and enjoy these informal afternoons with friends as we explore and
reflect on various aspects of our life of faith--and how this informs the choices we make as we
encounter the important issues of today’s world. We will begin with an examination of various
perspectives on spirituality and the environment.

Handouts will be out early each in the week to help bring a focus to our conversation.
So bring your coffee or tea or “whatever” and gather around our virtual kitchen table.

If you have any questions or want more information, e-mail me at wildrosie7@gmail.com.

Please feel free to invite a friend to join us via Zoom.

I am looking forward to seeing you all each week.
Anne
