PWRDF Sunday - 15th September 2024

What is PWRDF?

The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) is the Anglican Church of Canada’s agency for sustainable development and humanitarian relief.

By engaging Anglicans across Canada, PWRDF supports projects to improve the wellbeing of community members and break the cycle of poverty with a focus on health, empowering women and girls, food security and climate change, and Indigenous programs.

PWRDF responds to natural disasters and conflicts with humanitarian relief to support affected families and communities.

Working towards a truly just, healthy and peaceful world.

Kids, get ready to walk on Sept 15!

Kids Church PWRDF Sunday - Sunday, September 15, 2024

Alo, Kids of St.A's!

This coming week we are celebrating PWRDF (Primate World Relief and Development Fund) Sunday by walking 1km to raise money for children and families in Haiti.

Parents, there is a news video attached that shows the devastation Haiti has experienced as a result of natural disaster.

Over the next few Sundays, we'll learn more about Haiti - its beautiful culture, language, geography and the extreme challenges it faces as a nation - and why it's important that we pray for Haiti and think of ways we can support people who are suffering.

There will be opportunity to make a donation to our Kids Church PWRDF fundraising every week during the month of September.

You are invited to the Sunshine Garden's 10th growing season celebration

If you are reading this email, this means you are or have been a gardener, volunteer, supporter, or friend of the Sunshine Garden, the Fulton Place Community Garden. When we first started planning the garden in 2014, our vision was to cultivate personal, neighbourhood, and environmental well-being through a welcoming garden community, and thanks to a legion of dedicated volunteers and community members, we have achieved this and more. Can you believe it has already been 10 years?!

Join us to celebrate and reminisce about the fun times we've had in the last decade on Saturday, September 28 from 5-8pm for a potluck and party at the garden and the basement of St Augustine's Anglican Church (6110 Fulton Road). To RSVP, please fill out this form. All past contributors are welcome so please forward this invite to anyone who might have been unintentionally left off this email list.

Security update

Security update

Following a year with two separate break-ins your parish leadership and admin wanted to give a little update on the progress and plan following recommendations from the attending police at each event.  In general, the recommendation was that an alarm system has limited effect, but that we should make the building less of a target in the first place:

  • we are exploring either replacing all the lower windows on the Annex or installing bars.  In the meantime, we purchased some simple window alarms as a deterrent.
  • We now have a door sensor system to enable alerts if any doors are left open (that was the issue in the last break-in).
  • We have several cameras covering building entrances and have installed signage as a further deterrent.

A reminder to ensure that all doors and lights are closed and off if you are ever the last one out of the building.  Several doors benefit from a second 'tug' to ensure it is closed!

Wednesday Night Sharing Circle

Wednesday Night Sharing Circle

On tap: "Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time" by Marcus Borg

Sharing in circle has a long history of transformation and community strength in both indigenous and addictions recovery traditions.

Sharing in circle allows us both opportunity to listen, and when our turn arrives, to speak.

A topic is raised each Wednesday in the realms of Faith, Justice, Spirituality, and Action in the Christian tradition that we are invited to reflect on and share if we wish.

Rev. Jonathan usually facilitates the circle.  Please contact him for the zoom access: rector@staugustinesedmonton.com

We have used books, video, or individual presentations as our 'prompts' for the evening.

"Doors" open at 7:45pm, process begins at 8pm-9pm.  The zoom stays on until 9:30pm latest for those who want to chat more.

GATHER ‘ROUND THE KITCHEN TABLE is Resuming

GATHER ‘ROUND THE KITCHEN TABLE is Resuming

Thursday afternoons 1.30pm - 2.45pm, via Zoom,beginning October 3, 2024

I am happy to tell you that “Gathering” is resuming Thursday, October 3rd .

You are invited to gather together and enjoy these informal afternoons with friends as we explore and
reflect on various aspects of our life of faith--and how this informs the choices we make as we
encounter the important issues of today’s world. We will begin with an examination of various
perspectives on spirituality and the environment.

Handouts will be out early each in the week to help bring a focus to our conversation.
So bring your coffee or tea or “whatever” and gather around our virtual kitchen table.

If you have any questions or want more information, e-mail me at wildrosie7@gmail.com.

Please feel free to invite a friend to join us via Zoom.

I am looking forward to seeing you all each week.
Anne

Update from the Anglican Foundation

Update from the Anglican Foundation

The AFC team hopes you all had a wonderful summer. We're gearing up for another busy fall season, but wanted to share this summer recap. Please take a look at the 2024 Request for Proposals, "Ecumenical Embrace" and be sure to share the link with your fellow Canadian Anglicans who might be interested in this special funding opportunity.

2024 RFP

Scott Brubacher explains that with this year's RFP, AFC wants to encourage Canadian Anglicans to connect with fellow Christians from the Oriental Orthodox Churches through ecumenical outreach projects and new shared ministries, “so that we may learn from each other and appreciate the diversity that exists within the Body of Christ.”
