Diocesan AppointmentsArchdeacons for Rural Ministry and Mission and Discipleship Bishop Stephen London is pleased to appoint the Rev. Canon Chelsy Bouwman as Archdeacon for Rural Ministry, and the Rev. Jonathan Crane as Archdeacon for Mission and Discipleship in the Diocese of Edmonton.
And a word from Jonathan regarding his new appointment ... I just want to share a quick note to pre-empt any questions about the role. Yes, I will still be around :) Yes, I am still Jonathan :) No, it doesn't affect the parish financially! An archdeacon is a supportive role to our bishop and, in this diocese, focuses on a single portfolio. I am now the Archdeacon for Mission and Discipleship and will be a bit of a connecting place and oversight for some of the work happening in the diocese in these areas. Practically, I am asked to allocate an extra 10% of time to this work beyond the standard clergy commitment of 10% in the wider diocese. I felt comfortable agreeing to this because it seems obvious to me that much of this work will benefit the parish and we can help be leaders in the diocese with many of the gifts that this parish already holds. For instance, I will need a group in the fall to test the Revive resource which has been piloted elsewhere in the diocese. Otherwise, the plans for this role involve picking up some of the work that Ven. Richard King had begun, and discerning a good way ahead of fostering spiritual growth and playful creativity in our diocese. I invite your ideas and your prayers. J+ |
