Wednesday Night Sharing Circle

Wednesday Night Sharing Circle

New Book: Finding God in the Mess

Sharing in circle has a long history of transformation and community strength in both indigenous and addictions recovery traditions.

Sharing in circle allows us both opportunity to listen, and when our turn arrives, to speak.

A topic is raised each Wednesday in the realms of Faith, Justice, Spirituality, and Action in the Christian tradition that we are invited to reflect on and share if we wish.

Rev. Jonathan usually facilitates the circle.  Please contact him for the zoom access: rector@staugustinesedmonton.com

We have used books, video, or individual presentations as our 'prompts' for the evening.

"Doors" open at 7:45pm, process begins at 8pm-9pm.  The zoom stays on until 9:30pm latest for those who want to chat more.

Bishop Steve Celebrates Milestone Service

Bishop Steve Celebrates Milestone Service

Bishop Stephen London visited St. Peter’s, Lac La Nonne last week, fulfilling the goal he set when he was elected bishop in 2021 to lead a service in every parish in the Edmonton diocese. “… St. Peter’s is a beautiful, little rural church with people excited to worship there,” said Bishop Steve in his Facebook post.

Morningstar Collective Kitchen meets at St A's

Morningstar Collective Kitchen meets at St A's

Sheila Thompson and Eman from the Fulton neighborhood helped organize and test out an idea of a collective kitchen with residents of the new supportive housing building near Capilano skatepark.

For a small fee, 5 residents came this past Friday afternoon and joined in to help cook 3 meals, and package them up for their freezer.

Rev. Jonathan joined in to to help negotiate the kitchen and visit.

The idea is to organize similar events once a month to share cooking skills, and create some meals to carry through the weeks.

We will need a church host (two at most) to be present each event. If you are interested, let Rev. Jonathan know.

Belonging Centre at St. Luke's

Belonging Centre at St. Luke's

We at St. A's are invited to join in and help

There is an exciting ministry opportunity emerging at St. Luke's, one of our neighbouring Anglican parishes in Holyrood.

This is an invitation to learn and volunteer.

The Boyle Street Community Services received a grant from the city to run what they are calling "belonging centers" throughout the city. They would run out of 5 Anglican church halls (hopefully including ours), the Amadyia Mosque and a venue downtown near the City Hall (where tee pee treats presently has a restaurant).

The belonging centers are for people who want to connect with neighbours and who may need the help of the social workers and case workers who will be onsite. They will have coffee, cards (or other games) and treats (no meal) and will have a scheduled time for prayer. At St. Luke's it is proposed that they would run on Monday and Wednesday from 9am - 3pm. It would be in our upstairs Wittingback hall and would host at most 20 people.

What will make the centers a success are what they are calling the "friendship volunteers". Those who can come for an hour or so to have conversation and make the welcome for those who come to participate.

At St. Luke's this would be very similar to the welcome we made for some neighbours at our recent pancake breakfast. Being available to hear and share stories with those who would come.

Boyle Street is hosting two training days at St. Faith (an Anglican Church just off 118th ave) on Saturday October 7th or Saturday October 14th from 9 - 3 (Lunch provided). Each training day will be identical so pick one that fits your schedule. There will be other opportunities to learn and train in the future as well but these big events will give us lots of opportunity to ask questions about the program before it begins and to meet volunteers from the other locations.

If this does not sound like a ministry you are called to or comfortable with, that's quite alright. If this sounds like something a friend of yours might love to do, please do invite them to the training or put them in touch.

Please do let me know what you think
