Wednesday Night Sharing CircleWednesday, May 10, 2023 Sharing in circle has a long history of transformation and community strength in both indigenous and addictions recovery traditions. Sharing in circle allows us both opportunity to listen, and when our turn arrives, to speak. A topic is raised each Wednesday in the realms of Faith, Justice, Spirituality, and Action in the Christian tradition that we are invited to reflect on and share if we wish. Rev. Jonathan usually facilitates the circle. Please contact him for the zoom access: rector@staugustinesedmonton.com We have used books, video, or individual presentations as our 'prompts' for the evening. "Doors" open at 7:45pm, process begins at 8pm-9pm. The zoom stays on until 9:30pm latest for those who want to chat more.

An Introduction to the EnneagramA tool for self-awareness, better relationships, growth and compassion. - Thursday, May 11, 2023 An introduction to the EnneagramA tool for self-awareness, better relationships, growth and compassion.DATE CHANGE: Thursday, May 11th, 7-9pm at St. Augustine's Join Lindsay Batke for a simple introduction to the Enneagram. Do you know that about 90% of people think they are self-aware, but only about 10% actually are? When researchers study our beliefs about ourselves and how we are viewed by others, only a handful of us have accurate beliefs! The Enneagram is a unique personality typing framework combining traditional wisdom with modern psychology - a powerful tool for understanding ourselves and the people in our lives. Lindsay has found this an extremely helpful tool in her life and Rev. Jonathan asked her if she would lead us in an evening of learning. How does it help the church?Self-awareness is so critical for all humans so that we don't lay unhelpful assumptions on one another about how they should be or how we should be. Difference is not disobedience. In fact, difference is critical for a healthy community to function and reflect the diversity inherant in God. The Trinity is not a singularity, but a community, and so we, in our human community, reflect God only in the diversity of community. As we approach our Strength to Strength visioning weekend at the end of May 2023, we need to ask the question, "who are we?"
The Enneagram is an important tool to help us bring grace for each other into our shared church-living. For more infomation visit: http://staugustinesedmonton.com/events/an-introduction-to-the-enneagram/2023-05-11

The first trees are in!nuts and berries The first trees are planted! A mix of Beaked Hazelnut (one of our local hardy nut trees) and Northline Saskatoon trees have been planted surrounding the future labyrinth site on the side lands of the church. The trees came from Prairie Hardy Tree nursery out near Two Hills, AB. They came as single-stalk bare root stock and so are quite tiny now, but will each grow to be about 2m tall and 2m wide at maturity. These trees were funded by the Christmas ornament fundraiser last year. These plants were chosen to surround the labyrinth because their fan form creates good sightlines lower at their base (for safety in design) but, as their tops grow together, a sense of seclusion while people pray. Strength to Strength 2.0Save the Date Please "save the weekend" for our St. A's whole-parish visioning celebration on May 26, 27, 28, 2023. (Friday Evening, Saturday Day, Sunday Day.) The weekend will center around where we have been, where we are, and where we are going. Our last event like this was in 2014. A parallel kid's program will be in place. *Note - this date has changed since the event was first announced at the AGM. Some world conflicts came to light that forced the shift. However, we've landed actually on our patronal event - the feast day of St. Augustine of Canterbury. Perhaps not a coincidence at all. More details to come. GATHERING AROUND THE KITCHEN TABLEAGING FAITHFULLY: THE HOLY INVITATION OF GROWING OLDER - Thursday, September 7, 2023 Come and enjoy a relaxing time of conversation as we reflect together on excerpts from Alice Fryling’s wise and readable book "Aging Faithfully". We will also consider passages from other sources which, I trust, will add to the richness our conversation. With wisdom, humour, and spiritual insight, Fryling relates her and her husband’s journeys into their retirement years and onward as they now enter the eighth decade of their lives. As she explores the losses they and others have faced, she encourages consciously grieving them. But she doesn’t leave us there. Fryling relates how she learned, with the Holy Spirit’s help, that "buried in our losses are holy invitations," and maintains that many of those losses remind us of the resurrection. She explores themes of productivity and fruitfulness, learning to embrace "the discipline of irresponsibility," and of letting go while holding on more tightly to God and that which is eternal. So bring your coffee and gather around the (virtual) kitchen table or perhaps just settle into a comfortable chair.
