"The Land Wants Us To Live Differently Here"

How do we live well on the land?

This is a significant question for the church as we wrestle with both our indigenous and ecological history.  The Anglican Diocese of Edmonton spans a wide swath of land in North-Central Alberta - how is the land inviting us to live well in this place?  The title is drawn from a story shared by a Dene elder of his ancestors moving into a different landscape.  Their old ways and traditions were no longer applicable, they had to practice a new way of gathering food and keeping communication.  The Anglican church came from a very different place, land, and tradition.  What new ways of incarnation do we need to learn and hone in this place?

In this 5-part podcast series Rev. Jonathan Crane interviews individuals who spend their lives caring for a peice of land be it rural or urban.  These podcasts will be released once a week through the 2021 Season of Creation that begins on September 1st.  They are intended to be enjoyed by individuals in addition to any local church programs you might be running and will be available both on the Diocesan website as well as other podcast services.  These podcasts are an act of the Diocese of Edmonton Social Justice Commitee.

New episodes are being added weekly through the Season of Creation!

Fall Sharing Circle: Pro-Future Faith Video Series

Fall Sharing Circle: Pro-Future Faith Video Series

We have found Rev. Dowd's presentation to be inspiring, grounding, clarifying, and encouraging.  He is working to re-connect our religious perspective to the reality of life in this universe - a disconnect that is relatively new in religion.

We will use Rev. Dowd's videos for the Wednesday Night Sharing Circle beginning after labor day.

From the author: "Having “squandered our inheritance on profligate living,” we are a prodigal species. Industrial civilization and our insatiable appetites have us hurtling toward irreversible consequences – not in some distant future, but right now. The good news is it’s not too late. At the intersection of science, spirituality, and sustainability is a deep love of life and a passion for our posterity – a ProFuture Faith. Join eco-theologian, author, and TEDx speaker, Rev. Michael Dowd in a dynamic DVD and internet-based discussion course that bridges the gap between head and heart, science and faith. Participants will be guided on a journey that accepts what is inevitable, avoids what is futile, and be inspired to attend to what is urgent. Come home to reality. Embrace a ProFuture Faith!"

GATHERING ‘ROUND THE KITCHEN TABLE

GATHERING ‘ROUND THE KITCHEN TABLE

A Zoom Event - Starting Thursday, September 30, 2021 to October 21

Come and enjoy a relaxing time of  conversation on Thursdays as we  reflect together on excerpts from Barbara Brown Taylor‘s best selling  book,  An Altar in the World - a Geography of Faith. Taylor begins by reminding us of the words of the 12th century mystic, Mechtild of Magdeburg: “the day of my spiritual awakening was the day I saw–and knew I saw–all thing in God and God in all things`.  It is in this spirit Taylor invites us to discover altars everywhere we go and in nearly everything we do. So bring your coffee and gather around the (virtual) kitchen table or perhaps just settle into a comfortable chair as we enjoy each other's company and delight in recognizing  the Holy in the Ordinary.

For The Coming Day

For The Coming Day

A weekly podcast on the lectionary

Aaron Parker and Rev. Jonathan have begun a short 10 minuteish weekly podcast to help open the scripture of the week.

Expect the collect prayer of the week, and invitation to be attentive to the Spirit, the reading, a few simple reflections, and a song performed by Aaron.

It will tend to come out early in the week so that the scripture can rumble around in your world and heart, and when you hear it on Sunday, it won't be your first encounter.

You can easily subscribe on your favourite podcast service so that you can be notified when it is available each week.  Have a listen on a break from work, while you're washing dishes, or sitting on your balcony enjoying the morning glory of the sun.
