We are so glad you have found St. Augustine's online and hope you will find what you are looking for.  If you do not find it on our website, please don't hesitate to contact us.

St. Augustine's is a small community church in South-East Edmonton.  About two-thirds of the people who attend come from the local neighbourhood, and one-third come from elsewhere in the city or Sherwood Park.

The building has our sanctuary through the main front doors, and we have a 200 person hall, commercial kitchen, lounge, and nursery downstairs.  Upstairs on the balcony overlooking the main sanctuary is our lovely St. Hilda's Chapel - a space for prayer, reflection, spiritual direction, and small gatherings.  Our ministries, building needs, grounds, staff, and events are funded entirely by individual donations.

Sunday mornings we gather in the program year at 8am and 10am.  In the summer, we usually switch to a single service at 9:30am from July to Labor Day weekend.

8am Service

Here we gather in the chapel and follow the Anglican Book of Alternative Services for a simple and conversational gathering.  There is a similar sermon to the 10am, and we always have communion.  We average 3 to 6 people.

10am Service

At 10am we currently average 30-50 people.  We provide activities for kids and enjoy the leadership of a small choir.  Music is led from piano, organ, and sometimes guitar.  We are grounded in the tradition of great Anglican hymns, but include many modern expressions alongside.  Our service is liturgical - meaning we follow ancient patterns of Christian worship in modern ways.  People have said that our worship at St. Augustine's feels, authentic and honest.  We are proud that kids and seniors alike feel at home here.

Kids

Kids are an integral part of who we are as a Church and are always welcome.  Rev. Jonathan invites all children up to sit with him near the beginning of the service to have a conversation about the week’s topic.  Sometimes it’s a sing-along for the whole congregation to join in or a repeat-after-me prayer. After this time, the children have the choice to stay with the parents upstairs or join in "Kid's Church" (more info) downstairs, where they read the story for the day, watch a video, sing songs and engage through crafts.  The children of St. Augustine’s bring together the various generations within our group.  They provide laughter, joy and simple questions about our journey with God.

Parking

We have an ample parking lot out back and there is street parking around the church as well.  There is designated handicapped parking spots at the front and back closest to walkways and a ramp leading up to the main doors.

Elevator

We have a lift between the main floor and the basement.  Washrooms are in the basement.

Dress

Really - come as you are or dress up as you like.  We have all sorts and styles already!

Spiritual

St. Augustine's is a people who gather each week to pray and give thanks to God.  We are centered around the person of Jesus who is our teacher, our example, and a deep expression of God's love and power for us.  We do not slide easily into what the bible says or does not say.  We listen to the whole of the scriptures, we listen to what is going on in the world, and we honor our individual stories with God.  The preaching is not directive, but reflective and inviting.  We have a history at St. A's of leaning on the contemplative traditions within Christianity.  We seek a deep engagement with God in Jesus that is world-transformative, active, playful, generous and honest to real human life.  If this catches your attention, we would love to meet you and support you in your own journey with God in your own set of gifts and callings to better this world through your service in Christ.
