St. Augustine's Anglican Church
St A's Newsletter for March 30th 2025
Lent 2025: Turning Toward Wholeness

Lent 2025: Turning Toward Wholeness

This Lent we gather around the teachings of the indigenous Medicine Wheel that gives us an image of our wholeness as humans and as people of faith.  The Wheel embodies an image of our whole life Childhood - Adolescence - Adulthood - Eldership, and it embodies the four quadrants of our health: Physical - Mental - Emotional - Spiritual.  Among the wheel's many teachings, we will focus on this last set.

Lent I - Physical

Lent II - Mental

Lent III - Guest preacher & Celebrant the Ven. Jordan Haynie Ware from Good Shepherd Anglican Church Edmonton

Lent IV - Emotional

Lent V - Spiritual

As well, there will be an online study of Benedictine Spirituality on Wednesday evenings (*beginning March 19) from 7-8 pm led by Rev. Jonathan.  A link will be sent out each Wednesday via the parish e-newsletter.

LENT study 2025: Benedictine Spirituality

LENT study 2025: Benedictine Spirituality

Held on Zoom (email for link) April 9, 23 from 7pm-8:30pm.

This Lent over several Wednesday evenings, we will explore Benedictine Spirituality.

Why?  Benedictine practice is not flashy spirituality, but very much about following Jesus in our real life and in community.  This spiritual approach, following the leadership of St. Benedict of Nursia (b. 480 c.e.), holds themes of hospitality, humility, stability, balance, and others that translate well into our life as individuals and as a church.

If you would like to do a deep dive, here is a link to his 'Rule' which is still read daily by folks connected, within a monastery or without, to the Order of St. Benedict (OSB).  There are lots of other resources online.

GATHERING AROUND THE KITCHEN TABLE

GATHERING AROUND THE KITCHEN TABLE

Thursday afternoons 1.30pm - 2.45pm A Zoom Event

I'm so happy that it is time to gather again.  Our weekly winter session will resume on Thursday, January 16th from 1:30 to 2:45 pm.  You are invited to gather together on Zoom to enjoy these informal afternoons with friends as we explore and reflect on various aspects of our life of faith--and how this informs the choices we make as we encounter the complex and sometimes confusing times that we live in.

Handouts will be sent by e-mail early each week to help bring a focus to our conversation.  So bring your coffee or tea or “whatever” and gather around our virtual kitchen table.

If you have any questions or want more information,  contact me at wildrosie7@gmail.com.  Please feel free to invite a friend to join us.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all each week.
