Proud of Our Rector!!St. Augustine’s is pleased to announce that our rector Jonathan Crane has been selected to attend a conference ... Queen of the Apostles Retreat Centre, Mississauga (Toronto), Ontario from Friday April 19th - Monday April 22nd 2024 This conference will gather small teams from across the country who are motivated and excited to see strong cultures of spiritual formation in their parishes, communities, regions, or dioceses. We will learn and do spiritual formation together and then bring back a plan to ferment spiritual formation in our own places. It is an honour that Jonathan was one of those chosen to attend and we look forward to what he will bring back to the parish. |
IAM Collective - April 20th in the Church Lower Hall (11am-4pm)Moosehide Beaded Orange Shirt Pins Workshop We are halfway through our IAM Collective Workshop Series with 2 more Saturday workshops remaining. All of the workshops are family-friendly! As future Knowledge Holders, children are not just warmly welcomed, but highly honoured! This week we are making Moosehide Beaded Orange Shirt Pins. It will be a valuable opportunity to not only experience the traditional skill of decorative beading which you can take home with you, but to also have the opportunity to learn from local Knowledge Holders who are the children/grandchildren of Residential/Day School Survivors. You will gain a better understanding of what Orange Shirt Day means and it's importance to our Indigenous Brothers and Sisters. You can “arrive” on the spot (there are ample materials to accommodate last minute drop-ins) however they would prefer that you register through the provided Evenbrite links so they can keep track of numbers. Did I also mention that FREE snacks and lunch are provided! What an INCREDIBLE way to spend a Saturday, don’t you think?! Please Note: The IAM Collective is mandated by their governing bodies to donate 30% of their proceeds from Orange Shirt or Red Dress initiatives to their respective fundraising organizations; therefore there is a $27.95 minimum donation for the workshop. Eventbrite link: We look forward to seeing you there. Jodi

IAM Collective Workshop April 27th - Annex Lower Hall (9am-3pm)Mixed Media Art Adventure Use paints, leather, fur, beads and more to tell a story on canvas guided by the amazing talents of Linda Wright. Linda Wright is of Gwich’in decent, originally from Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Throughout her life, she has worked in and travelled to many communities in the Western Arctic and Sahtu regions, creating a true appreciation for the unique landscapes and cultures of the north. Wright’s artwork, "Clothed in Culture" was selected for the 31st annual Great Northern Arts Festival cover art. Over the past several years, Linda has presented her work in Edmonton, at various exhibitions including, the Art Gallery of Alberta and the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Extension, The Extension Gallery. Traditional legends and stories illustrate a time when animals and humans spoke the same language, filled with humor and imparting morals. Wright is fascinated by these long-ago stories, which were told by the Gwich’in Elders so that they could be passed onto future generations. She is inspired to create a visual expression of these stories. Through her art, Wright intends to develop a sense of appreciation for the north and provide an insight into Gwich’in oral storytelling traditions. And WE get to learn from her!! How blessed are we! Sunday May 19th, our celebration of Pentecost, will be a big Sunday this year!!Note date correction! We welcome Bishop Steve on May 19th this year to celebrate Confirmation, Baptism, and Anglican Reception. Confirmation for baptized people is a chance to receive a simple prayer that the Spirit be present and released in your life. Confirmation is an adult reception of baptism and is associated with several sessions of preparation that cover our way of Christian life in the world. In confirmation, the bishop lays hands on the head of each candidate and prays for them. Jonathan would like to provide mentors for each candidate for confirmation to support them in prayer and conversation. Baptism is our simple entry into Christian faith for people of any age who have not been baptized before. As we receive baptism in water and in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and are marked with chrism (blessed, fragrant oil), we offer ourselves to receive the love and promises of God and to join the church as the family of faith. Baptism is not about what we know, but about the direction we set ourselves towards in life. Anglican Reception is by no means a requirement or even an encouragement for members of St. A’s. However, sometimes we feel we want to ‘plant down’ and say we are ‘here.’ If any of these ceremonies catch your attention, please let Rev. Jonathan know. Preparation for confirmation will begin in Lent and baptismal preparation in May. Jonathan will need some confirmation mentors as well. For more infomation visit:
