The Season of Advent

The Season of Advent

A season of anticipation - Sunday, December 3, 2023

Blessed are you, O Lord our God, ruler of the universe,
creator of light and darkness.
In this holy season,
when the sun’s light is swallowed up
by the growing darkness of the night,
you renew your promise to reveal among us
the splendour of your glory,
enfleshed and visible to us in Jesus Christ your Son.
Through the prophets
you teach us to hope for his reign of peace.
Through the outpouring of his Spirit,
you open our blindness to the glory of his presence.
Strengthen us in our weakness.
Support us in our stumbling efforts to do your will
and free our tongues to sing your praise.
For to you all honour and blessing are due,
now and for ever. Amen.

A grant from the Anglican Foundation!

A grant from the Anglican Foundation!

St. Augustine's has been awarded a grant from the Anglican Foundation for the amount of $5000!

This was an appeal to further our building refresh especially in our lower hall.  While this was not the full amount we were hoping for, it will still go a long way to refresh our main washrooms and some other lower hall elements.

This is a good time to mention that if you wish to donate to the Anglican Foundation, who support projects across Canada, that would be a lovely way to say thank you to them and pay it forward. https://www.anglicanfoundation.org/donate/

New Audio Headsets available during worship

New Audio Headsets available during worship

Trouble hearing during worship?

With much thanks to the financial donations of a few parishioners, we now have 6 audio headsets available for use during worship.  These headsets receive an FM wireless signal directly from our microphone system and amplify it to your needs.  They have a simple on/off button, a volume control, and a balance control.

We tested two sets last weekend to good effect!

The headsets will be sanitized after each service by the tech team.

Wednesday Night Sharing Circle

Wednesday Night Sharing Circle

New Book: Finding God in the Mess

Sharing in circle has a long history of transformation and community strength in both indigenous and addictions recovery traditions.

Sharing in circle allows us both opportunity to listen, and when our turn arrives, to speak.

A topic is raised each Wednesday in the realms of Faith, Justice, Spirituality, and Action in the Christian tradition that we are invited to reflect on and share if we wish.

Rev. Jonathan usually facilitates the circle.  Please contact him for the zoom access: rector@staugustinesedmonton.com

We have used books, video, or individual presentations as our 'prompts' for the evening.

"Doors" open at 7:45pm, process begins at 8pm-9pm.  The zoom stays on until 9:30pm latest for those who want to chat more.

The Rev. Michael Coren, assistant curate at St. Luke's, Burlington in Niagara diocese, the author of 18 books, and a contributing columnist for the Toronto Star, will be sharing his "radical gospel message" with members of the Edmonton diocese in December. Church office shuffle

Thank you Rita!

Rita Yeo has asked to release her office work at St. A's (she reminded us it was always meant to be temporary).  We are so grateful Rita for all you have done over the last few years to help us get our financial systems in order after a move to a fully digital base of operations.  Every blessing in where you focus your energies next.

Looking for church depositing help and office support

Cheryl - our central office volunteer and treasurer is keen to cover off a few componets of Rita's work, however, we could use some help with the following:

1) weekly depositing (could be one or several people)

2) Occasional help for Cheryl when she is away to cover basic office processes, ppt production, and newsletter production.
