Twelfth Night Feast!Wednesday, January 5, 2022 Not the Shakespeare play, but better, because we gather in community and bring this old tradition to life at St. Augustine's. The liturgical season of Christmas often gets short shift: the stores start stocking Easter goods on Jan 1, our trees are put away by 8am boxing day, boxing week sales draw us in. No! The incarnation is such a rich reality in our world that we need at least 12 days to draw in that news. Let us rest in that theological place for at least these 12 days to breath in all that God is doing among us.
On Wednesday January 5th, The TWELFTH NIGHT, THE EVE OF THE EPIPHANY, THE CULMINATION OF THE CHRISTMAS SEASON, MAKE SOME WASSAIL And JOIN ST. A's folks on Zoom to have a little feast (your own fare of course), sing some songs, and conclude the night with a simple compline prayer service. STARTS AT 7PM! (please get the zoom link from the church office since we can't post it publicly) |
GATHERING ‘ROUND THE KITCHEN TABLEA Zoom Event - Thursday, January 6, 2022 Come and enjoy a relaxing time of conversation as we reflect together on excerpts from Barbara Brown Taylor ‘s best selling book, “Learning to Walk in the Dark”. With her characteristic charm, theological depth and literary wisdom, Taylor guides us through a spirituality of the nighttime, teaching us how to find our footing in times of uncertainty and giving us strength and hope to face the challenging moments that come our way. So bring your coffee and gather around the (virtual) kitchen table or perhaps just settle into a comfortable chair as we enjoy each other’s company, ponder a bit of scripture, and discuss Taylor’s insights. You do not need to purchase a book - You will be provided with excerpts which will serve as focal points in our conversations. However, if you wish to read it “cover to cover”, audio books and PDF copies are available online. Please email Anne Wightman: wildrosie7@gmail.com for more information and/or to receive the handout for our first “Gathering” of 2022. |
