For The Coming DayA new weekly podcast on the lectionary - Thursday, June 17, 2021 Aaron Parker and Rev. Jonathan have begun a short 10 minuteish weekly podcast to help open the scripture of the week. Expect the collect prayer of the week, and invitation to be attentive to the Spirit, the reading, a few simple reflections, and a song performed by Aaron. It will tend to come out early in the week so that the scripture can rumble around in your world and heart, and when you hear it on Sunday, it won't be your first encounter. You can easily subscribe on your favourite podcast service so that you can be notified when it is available each week. Have a listen on a break from work, while you're washing dishes, or sitting on your balcony enjoying the morning glory of the sun. Wednesday Night Sharing CircleWednesday, June 23, 2021 Wednesday nights 8pm via the standard Zoom link Spirituality is a personal thing. Even if we ascribe to a common creed or practice, we each use different words to express our experience and we each come at faith and Spirit from a different personal history. On Wednesday nights at St. Augustine's we are learning to value the aboriginal/recovery sharing circle as a tool to help one another on our journey. Anyone may drop in at any time to this sharing circle. We sometimes follow a book, but design the evenings in such a way that someone can join in even if they have not done that reading. Please come on time if you can. In circle we share one at a time, if we are not speaking, we listen with openness to the others. We choose to speak in the moment, avoiding any planning or thinking about what we might say next. This is an act of trust and vulnerability in community. Each week we use a 'prompt' from a book, video, or individual to open the circle to sharing on that topic. There is a .pdf document attached that outlines the basic format (container) that we follow. If you wish to join us, we do sometimes send out the prompt via email by 5pm on Wednesdays so people can have the text in front of them. If you would like to join the circle some night, please let Rev. Jonathan know before then, so you can be included in the email. (rector@staugustinesedmonton.com) We begin at 8pm and end as close to 9:30pm as we can. If you need the Zoom link or information on how to access this online circle, please contact us via the email above.

St. Augustine's, Plants Heart Garden to Remember the Children~ expression of public mourning and remembrance ~ Following a Sunday service at St. Augustine's where we reflected on the reality of finding the 215 children buried behind the Kamloops Residential School, Lauretta Howard organized with June Kohar and Pat Jameson to prepare materials for creating a 'heart garden' outside the church - an expression of public mourning and remembrance. As we continue to work and act for reconciliation, it seemed right to also mourn and remember these children who did not receive such expressions of grief in their own time. Members of the church and community both were invited to create hearts that were then 'planted' in the beds near our chokecherry or along the church. Almost 90 hearts have been planted so far. We remember the children who died and pray for families for whom this discovery has re-opened old wounds. |

Preparations for Virtual SynodWeek of June 14-20, 2021
Final arrangements are underway for the June 26 Electoral Synod. The Synod will be held virtually, with delegates joining through Zoom and voting electronically. The technology will be facilitated by a company called Data on the Spot (DOTS) which has successfully operated episcopal elections in two Anglican dioceses in the past year. DOTS will email voting credentials and instructions to delegates on Friday, June 18. As well, delegates will receive information about a Simply Voting training session to be held on Saturday, June 19, and opportunities to become familiar with the process on Tuesday and Thursday of the following week. Because this Synod is virtual, those who are not delegates will be able to watch the day unfold by tuning in to the All Saints' Cathedral YouTube channel. Proceedings begin at 10 am, Saturday, June 26.
