The first trees are planted!
A mix of Beaked Hazelnut (one of our local hardy nut trees) and Northline Saskatoon trees have been planted surrounding the future labyrinth site on the side lands of the church. The trees came from Prairie Hardy Tree nursery out near Two Hills, AB. They came as single-stalk bare root stock and so are quite tiny now, but will each grow to be about 2m tall and 2m wide at maturity. These trees were funded by the Christmas ornament fundraiser last year.
These plants were chosen to surround the labyrinth because their fan form creates good sightlines lower at their base (for safety in design) but, as their tops grow together, a sense of seclusion while people pray.
